3 Day Short Break

Escape to the picturesque National Parks of the Top End. Marvel at ancient rock art at Nourlangie and Ubirr, search for crocs on the Yellow Water Billabong and Guluyambi Cultural cruise; and view the cascades of Florence, Wangi and Tolmer Falls at Litchfield.

ITINERARY

As this Short Break departs at 6.30am, accommodation will need to be pre-booked for the previous night.

DAY 1: Darwin - Kakadu National Park

Depart Darwin and travel through pristine wetlands to sprawling Kakadu National Park, with its suite of landscapes varying from red-hued escarpments to floodplains teeming with wildlife. Visit Warradjan Cultural Centre, then join your local guide on an award-winning cruise on Yellow Water Billabong. Keep an eye out for saltwater crocodiles and a colourful range of birdlife.

Hotel: Kakadu Lodge (Budget or Standard) or Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, Kakadu (Superior).

DAY 2: Guluyambi Cultural Cruise - Darwin

This morning, stop at Ubirr for a short walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock art. Then cruise along the East Alligator River in search of saltwater crocodiles. You’ll have an Aboriginal guide with you, and with the special permission of the local people you’ll be able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit Bowali Visitor Centre before returning to Darwin.

*Please note:
- In April & November to March if weather conditions preclude access to the East Alligator region, alternative touring will be arranged on day 2.
- During the wet season (Dec-Mar) tour will join the Jumping Crocodile Cruise on the Adelaide River instead of the Guluyambi Cruise on the East Alligator River.
- Budget/Standard Accommodation: From 01 November 2019-31 March 2020 tonight’s accommodation will be the Vibe Hotel Darwin.


DAY 3: Darwin - Litchfield National Park - Depart Darwin

In Litchfield National Park today your first stop is beautiful Florence Falls. After a swim in its pristine rock pool, travel on to Tolmer Falls for a magnificent view of the water cascading down to the deep waterhole below. Wangi Falls, with its large crystal-clear pool, is another relaxing spot for a swim. At Howard Springs Nature Park, you’ll have the opportunity to feed the barramundi and turtles. Return to Darwin in the early evening, where your Short Break concludes.

Fitness Requirements

FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

  • Low to moderate level of fitness required
  • Nourlangie Rock: 1.5km walk around the base. The walk has built in steps along the path
  • Ubir: Walk is slightly uneven around the base but quite steep on the way to lookout
  • Florence Falls: 160 step staircase down to swimming area, or there is a viewing platform at top of the falls if you do not wish to swim
  • Tolmer Falls: is a flat walk of 15mins each way
  • Wangi Falls: is an easy walk from the carpark

  • Day Prior: Flights to arrive anytime into Darwin Airport
